Our guiding principle: We collect only what we need to connect you with work. We will never sell your personal data. We designed SteppeIn with the privacy and safety of agricultural workers as a top priority.
1. Who We Are
SteppeIn ("we," "our," or "us") operates the SteppeIn mobile application and website (steppein.com). We are a platform that connects agricultural workers with farm employers across the United States.

2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information: Email address, display name, and password
- Profile information: Work preferences, skills, certifications, and general location (city/state)
- Employer information: Business name, EIN (optional, for verification badge), and job posting details
- Communications: Messages sent through the in-app messaging system
- Payment information: Payment method details are processed by Stripe and Plaid — we do not store your full card numbers or bank credentials
Information We Do NOT Collect
We intentionally do not collect: Social Security numbers, immigration or citizenship status, country of origin, detailed home addresses, date of birth, or driver's license numbers. You can browse jobs without providing any personal information.
Information Collected Automatically
- Location: General location (with your permission) to show nearby jobs. You can revoke location access at any time.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and app version for troubleshooting
- Usage data: Screens viewed, features used, and job interactions to improve the app
3. How We Use Your Information
- Connect workers with relevant agricultural job opportunities
- Process job applications and facilitate communication between workers and employers
- Process payments through our payment partners (Stripe, Plaid)
- Send you notifications about job applications, messages, and account updates
- Improve and maintain the app's functionality and security
- Provide customer support
- Generate anonymized, aggregated market insights (no individual data is ever shared)
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- With employers/workers: When you apply to a job or post a job, relevant profile information is shared with the other party
- Payment processors: Stripe and Plaid process payments on our behalf under their own privacy policies
- Service providers: Firebase (Google) for authentication and data storage, with data protected under Google's security standards
- Legal requirements: Only when required by a valid court order or warrant — see Section 8
5. Data Security
- All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted (TLS/SSL)
- Authentication tokens are securely stored on your device
- Payment data is handled by PCI-DSS compliant payment processors (Stripe)
- Password hashing with industry-standard algorithms (Firebase Authentication)
- Rate limiting and behavioral analysis to prevent unauthorized access
6. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Messages: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
- Activity logs: Retained for 30 days
- Job postings: Retained while active; expired postings archived for 12 months
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information via your profile settings
- Deletion: Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data ("right to be forgotten"). Email support@steppein.com
- Download: Request a portable copy of your data
- Opt out: Disable location tracking, push notifications, or analytics in your device settings
8. Law Enforcement Requests
SteppeIn is committed to protecting the privacy of all users, including immigrant and migrant workers.
- We require a valid judicial warrant before disclosing any user data to law enforcement
- We will challenge overbroad or legally insufficient requests
- We will notify affected users of data requests unless legally prohibited from doing so
- We do not voluntarily cooperate with immigration enforcement agencies
- We publish a transparency report documenting the number and type of legal requests received
9. Children's Privacy
SteppeIn is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at support@steppein.com and we will promptly delete it.
10. Third-Party Services
Our app uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

- Plaid: Bank account linking — Plaid Privacy
- OpenAI: AI job summaries — OpenAI Privacy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
